Why is Litecoin up today?

$72.63+2.6% 24h+24.3% 7d

Litecoin's 1.1% daily gain is a continuation of a coin-specific run that has added 25.4% over the past week, lifting LTC to $72.08 and an eight-month high. The driver is a combination of record spot ETF holdings and futures open interest approaching its 2026 peak, alongside a surge in on-chain network activity that fuelled an 8% jump earlier in the week and has been framed as evidence of growing institutional interest in the asset.

The regulatory backdrop is also supportive: the SEC issued a clarification on digital asset rules that eases token and staking classification, a change that generally benefits established proof-of-work payment coins seeking US product listings. The same session brought news that SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, the agency's most prominent crypto advocate, has formally resigned.

Broader conditions are less helpful, which explains the modest 24-hour move and the 0.8% hourly dip. Bitcoin is flat near $84,052 after a 5.2% Treasury shock — the 10-year yield hit 5.22% — triggered roughly $1.7 billion in leverage liquidations, with a $350 million Bitget exchange hack adding to caution.
